Among the 358 players to represent Nigeria at the 13th All African Games are 24 to feature in volleyball. 12 players were selected each to represent Nigeria at the tournament in the men and women's categories.
Samuel Ajayi, the head coach of Nigeria's women's senior volleyball team, expressed confidence that his team would secure a podium finish at the forthcoming 13th All Africa Games in Ghana.
Under Ajayi's leadership, the women's team achieved a fourth-place position at the 12th African Games held in Morocco in 2019.
Ajayi noted that the team commenced training ahead of the general camp organized by the Sports Ministry, following a directive from Musa Nimrod, the president of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF).
Musa Baba-Musa the head coach of the Nigerian men's volleyball national team expressed optimism over his teams, emphasizing on their amazing potential too.
Nigeria secured automatic qualification after Benin withdrew from their scheduled match up.
The 12 players selected in the women's category included Ijeoma Ukpabi (Captain), Sharon Achi, Aliyah Usman, Maryam Ibrahim, Happy Wushilang, Ifunanya Udeagbala, and Blessing Unekwe, Deborah Chukwu, Helen Umeh, Mmesomachi Okekearu, Kelechi Ndukauba, and Mariam Usman.
The Nigerian men's Volleyball also has a 12-man list which includes Moses Gana (Captain), Bruno Ibe, Elisha Anebi, Victor Ezekiel, Uche Okereafor, Lucky Farouq, Mayowa Bello, Emmanuel Udah, Seiyefa Dikiyai, Prince Anyasodike, Dauda Saje and Afun Idowu.
Udah, a former Gisagara Volleyball Club player said that the expectation of all the players is to win a medal at the Africa Games. They are willing to give every opponent a tough fight.
Both the Nigerian Men's and Women's volleyball team are ready for the 13th African Games in Ghana holding from March 8th to 23rd in Ghana, aiming to do better compared to their previous outings.
