Indoor sports in Nigeria is gradually gaining grounds in Nigeria, with volleyball being one of the leading sports in this category. Offa volleyball club and Chief of Naval Staff also known as CNS Spikes have won the 2023 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. The final league match was played at the indoor hall of Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja.
Both finals ended 3-1 for the victors. Offa VC defeated Nigeria Security and Civil defence (NSCDC) 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 28-18, 25-19) and CNS Spikes defeated NSCDC female team 3-1 (18-25, 25-19, 28-18, 25-17), having come from a set behind. The Nigeria Security and Civil defence male and female teams both reached the final but failed to make their mark.
A major centrepiece in this year’s league was CNS Spikes make it two league wins at different tiers and in two seasons. CNS Spikes has previously won the 2022 National Division 1 volleyball league, after going the whole season unbeaten and are now crowned
The team co-ordinator, Commodore Mohammed Muye expressed his delight as his team won the league title in their debut season. “The team came from the National Division 1 Volleyball League to win the 2023 Nigeria Volleyball Premier League. I am so happy our dream became a reality. The girls did it”.
