Futsal is an indoor sport that created its own impact in the sporting world with its unique methods, rules and environment.
It was no different in Africa as the confederation of African Football followed the likes of South America and Europe to start a continental competition that commenced in 1996.
Like football was, this tournament is held every 4 years. Although it captured and captivated a large population of Europe, Futsal is yet to have similar effects in most African countries.
A number of 8 teams participate in this tournament with only 19 countries taking part since its commencement.
As Futsal is gradually growing into one of the most participated sports, could this see more African nations take part?
In the entire African continent, with 19 countries involved with Futsal since the start, only 6 countries have made more than 2 appearances.
African footballing nations like Ghana and Nigeria have made just one appearance as countries like 3 time champion Egypt, 2-time champion also current title holders Morocco, South Africa and 1 time champion Libya have had regular appearances during the course of these competitions.
How do we improve our performances in this sport?
