LeBron James has joined Michael Jordan as the only player to score 40 points in multiple NBA games after turning 39, achieving this feat during the Los Angeles Lakers' 116-104 victory against the Brooklyn Nets.
The 20-time NBA All-Star registered a career-high nine 3-pointers in the Lakers' 116-104 win over the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center on Sunday.
James' performance allowed him to match Jordan as the only two NBA players in history to have multiple games with 40 or more points after their 39th birthday. In the fourth quarter, James contributed 17 points, playing a crucial role in securing the Lakers' victory as they held onto a shrinking lead, which had decreased from 26 points to just eight at one stage.
The Los Angeles Lakers have now won eight of their last nine and are 44-33 for the season, placing them ninth in the Western Conference with five regular-season games to go.
James has now done 40 points or more in two games, one short of Michael Jordan who did this on three occasions.
James scored 25 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds in their last game against the Washington Wizards which they won 125-120. The American and Lakers forward now has an average of 25.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game in the 2023-2024 season.
