World no 1, Iga Swiatek was crowned Qatar open champion as she defeated Elena Rybakina (3) in straight sets to win her third straight title. The match ended (7-6 (10-8), 6-2) in favour of Iga Swiatek.
No one had won the Qatar open championship three times in a row. Something remarkable was that 23 straight set wins and 12 straight match wins in Qatar. It was her 18th career singles title and her first in 2024. The only female who has won three WTA titles was Serena Williams between 2013 & 2015 at a Miami open
.
It was a tough matchup as Swiatek had to come from 4-1 down to draw level at 4-4 and 8-8 to secure the first set (10-8) 7-6. During the match, Rybakina suffered a slight injury while trying to serve and this provided time for Swiatek to receive some coaching advice and bounced back from the 4-1 deficit. The opening set which Swiatek went on to win , lasted for 90minutes and Swiatek will go on to also win the second which looked less dramatic than the first.
The whole match lasted for about two hours and 17minutes and was one which helped Iga swiatek make history in Qatar.
