The Las Vegas Aces joined Houston Comets and Los Angeles as they became only the third team to retain their WNBA title. Houston Comets did theirs in 1998 after securing the 1997 title, and the Los Angeles Sparks followed in 2002, after winning the title in the previous year. After 21 years, in 2023, Las Vegas Aces retained theirs too after triumphing last season.
The Aces took on the New York Liberty in what would be the deciding match up. It was a tough one as the Las Vegas Aces won the match 70-69 by a one point margin to take the score of the five final series to 3-1.
American and Ace's power forward, A'ja Wilson led the Aces to a victory with 24points and 16 rebounds. The match was a frenzy as the Las Vegas Aces had to come from 12 points behind. They also had to survive a late scare from the New York Liberty as the latter who were 6 points down, salvaged 5 points but only managed to end the game 70-69 with the ball in the hands of Courtney Vandersloot who missed a game winning jumper at the buzzer.
With this, the Las Vegas Aces became the first team to win back-to-back WNBA Championships since the Los Angeles Sparks in 2002.
