The German tennis star stepped on to the court hoping to reach his first ever US Open Semi Final as he faced Croatian opponent Brona Coric.
It was a match Zverev prepared for through his career and with the ending of Novak Djokovic’s tournament coupled with the unfortunate absence of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the opportunity of a new champion has presented itself and Zverev has always had his eyes on the prize.
It was a testy first set for the 23-year-old German as he stumbled into a 1-6 loss to Coric. This didn’t deter him though as he fought his way back with two impressive tie breaks and a late break in the fourth set to win the match 1-6, 7-6(7-5), 7-6(7-1), 6-3.
Zverev, unhappy with his early performance stated he needed to up his game for the semi finals as he prepares to face a Spanish opponent with a resilient attitude in Pablo Carreno Busta who came out victorious after a quarter final game that lasted four hours.
